Assessment


Junior levels

The full mark on the report card is 50 points. If the score is less than half of the full mark, it will be considered as a fail. The assessment of students’ academic work is divided into two types: progressive assessment and summative assessment.

Progressive assessment takes students’ exercises such as worksheets as assessment content and assesses students’ level of mastery of topic skills, with a maximum score of 10. The scoring criteria are as follows:

The summative assessment is based on the final task designed by the students in each learning unit to determine the degree of mastery, with a maximum score of 40 points. The scoring criteria are as follows:

The Visual Arts subject has a total score of 100 on the Form 4 transcript, and a score below 40 will be considered a fail.

Classwork performance (30%)

Classroom assignments are divided into two types: progressive assessment and summative assessment. The assessment methods are the same as those in junior levels.

Semester exam (70%)

The examination papers are limited to three hours. They assess artwork description, basic styling and illustration design capabilities of marker drawing skills, including:

Artwork description

Painting geometric shapes: single and comprehensive shapes

Organic form: entity and virtual body

Monochrome/color portrait painting

Classroom assignments are divided into two types: progressive assessment and summative assessment. The assessment methods are the same as those in junior levels.

Semester exam (70%)

The examination papers are limited to three hours. They assess the ability of art appraisal (0.5 hours) and design (2.5 hours), including:

Artwork description and analysis

Poster and illustration design (choose one from five)

S5 Assessment Content

The Visual Arts subject has a total score of 100 on the Form 5 transcript, and a score below 40 is considered a fail.

The final examination is conducted in the Diploma of Secondary Education Examination mode. Candidates must choose 1 out of 5 questions to answer, and the time limit is 4 hours. The questions are divided into two parts, Part A Art Criticism and Part B Art Creation. Students are required to evaluate the two paintings for 45 minutes, and for the next 3 hours and 15 minutes, candidates are required to paint and create according to the designated topics.

Portfolio (30%)

Candidates are required to submit a portfolio, including a workbook of research topics showing art criticism and related research processes related to art creation criticism research, and a work of art specific to the subject.
